12 Steps of my Bedtime Routine

I have always been a night person. I absolutely hate waking up in the morning.
Even though I’ve been doing 9-6 for a really long time now. This routine isn’t my piece of cake. I keep snoozing my alarm until I have to literally run to make it to the office every morning. Knowing I can hardly move in the morning, I prepare for my days a night before. Today I will be sharing my typical bedtime routine with you guys. I will be sharing what keeps me busy at night before I konk out.

1. Music, lights and scented candle on

The first thing I do when I get to my room at night for some me-me time is to turn on music and bedside lamps. I love turning on my fairy lights on my picture wall too for some disco-mahol. That’s how I operate and feel good.

2. Tidy up

As you know by now, I have a problem with dirty closets and untidy rooms. I believe everything in life belongs to a certain place. so this is one thing which I always do at night.

3. Take clothes, shoes & accessories out for next day

I decide what I’ll be wearing the next day, take out clothes from top to bottom with that outfit and place them neatly outside the cupboard. This includes shoes, socks and all accessories I’ll be wearing the next day.

4. Remove makeup

I use makeup only about once or twice a week. Time to wipe off Mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadows with makeup remover and Q-tip before getting into the shower and washing face with face wash.

5. Shower

There’s nothing better than a hot shower in winters after 3 sets of tennis and a hard day at work.

6. Hair routine

When my hair is wet after a shower, I have to apply leave-in conditioner or mousse to tame it.

7. Namaz

At night, I try to keep the balance clear. So if during the day, any namaz was missed, then offer kaza namaz for that time along with Isha prayers.

8. Packing a sports bag for next day

I go for Tennis after work every day at 6 pm straight from office so I take my sports bag with me to work. I pack up my full tennis gear at night every day for the next day.

9. Sorting handbag

When one is in office the whole day and at courts after that, there are many things (like earrings, memory cards, USB/hard disks which collect in pockets of my handbag) which need to be put back in their place.

10. Making a to-do list for tomorrow

The night is the time when my brain is the most active. I have all sorts of ideas and work motivation. This is why I keep a diary and a pen in my bedside drawer always. I jot down the list of things I need to do the next day before going to sleep. It also helps me sleep better as I know I don’t need to worry about those things which I’ve already written down.

11. Storytime with my beloved

This is one thing I really love about our relationship Mashallah. On most days we try to finish all our bedtime chores quickly so we have a little time to chit-chat. We talk about how our days went, funny things that happened during the day, massage and sometimes silly games too.

A game we played last week turned out to be really interesting. We decided to share our annoying habits with each other. The only rule of the game was not to get offended. We actually went hysterical laughing as the game turned out so funny. Both of us knew exactly what our weaknesses are and we laughed loudly when the other one complained about how annoying it is. On many nights, we just cannot stop talking and then the final game starts of whoever talks is a donkey. Yes we are over-aged kids most of the time at home.

12. Recitation of 4 quls

I have a lovely app on my phone called 4 Quls which has an audio recording of them in different voices.

How do you spend the last few hours of the day before you doze off? Would love to know.
