Hi girls. Today on Organic Radiance, we will be discussing a few easy-to-make hair masks. I will be keeping the post as short as possible and only sharing the best recipes for hair masks I’ve found so far. I didn’t go into benefits of the following as it gets too lengthy.

Masks with a thin consistency can be poured into a spray bottle and sprayed onto hair thoroughly. For thicker mixtures, the best way to apply natural hair mask is with a hair dye brush on scalp and roots. After applying the mixture, its best to wear a shower cap for better absorption. I have kept an extra shower cap in my washroom only for hair masks. It’s one from my stay at a hotel. Those are quite thin and are perfect for this.

While applying hair conditioners or masks, it is vital to thoroughly massage your scalp for blood circulation. It will make you feel refreshed too. Other than the following hair masks, the most effective natural products are:
  • Hair oils (coconut, olive, almond, Amla, sesame, etc)
  • Aloe Vera (simply applying its gel from its leaves)
  • Henna
  • Amla
All the following masks have to be applied at least for 20 minutes. They are all natural so you can always apply them for a longer period of time. Please adjust the quantity of the following according to your hair length.

If you really want to take the plunge and want your hair to be thoroughly treated, even at the expense of stink and hassle, then you could use Onion juice. It’s extremely effective. Please be warned that it smells. It can be done by applying onion juice (from the juicer/blender) to hair and scalp directly.

9.

1. Mashed banana
2 T Yogurt
Banana is effective for hair but it doesn’t wash out easily. Its bits stay glued to hair strands even if you use conditioner. So remember not to apply it before a function. You will need some time and washes to fully get banana traces out.

Recipe for my DIY Hair Moisturizer

When I moved to Canada, my hair felt too dry thanks to extremely cold weather. So I have made a spray bottle with my DIY hair spray. It is made up of the following:

  • 8 T olive oil
  • 8 T Rosewater or water
  • A few drops of any essential oil (optional)

I just spray it on my hair night before I have to shower in the morning. I prefer it than oiling hair because:

  • It is way less hassle than applying oil on hair.
  • It also doesn’t dirty up a pillowcase/upholstery
  • Much easier to spray hair as there’s no mess
  • Makes dry hair easier to brush

Note

T – Tablespoon
t – Teaspoon

Just after you have applied shampoo, giving hair a final rinse with vinegar boosts shine. Keeping it in a spray bottle in your shower area makes it easier to use. Have you got any more ideas for hair care? Please feel free to share.
